RATCHABURI, DEC 21 (TNA) – Over 1,000 wild monkeys feed
on fruits during a special feast at Tham Chom Pon Cave in Thailand’s Ratchaburi
province, about 80 kilometres west of
Bangkok.
Located in Chom Bueng district, Tham Chompon Cave and its
vicinity are home to a large troop of macaques. As part of the district’s
annual cultural event, the locals have offered special treat to the macaques
for 15 years.
A wide selection of fruits was there for the monkeys to
choose from.
After the crowd of people finished preparing the feast, a
man gave a signal by clapping his hands.
Then the party was in full swing when the primates stormed the tables
and enjoyed the fruits.
Among the spectators was District Chief Prayong Chantateng
who hand- fed a monkey.
Hosting the buffet each year was a big part of the
district’s main event, he said. It was
an opportunity for the locals to pay respects to King Chulalongkorn or King
Rama V who made a royal visit to the cave in 1895, Prayong said. (TNA)
