BANGKOK, Dec 12 (TNA) – Alibaba Group will introduce online auctions for Thai rubber products and the country is likely to export at least 200,000 tons of rubber to China a year through this channel.
Nakorn Tangavirapat, deputy governor of the Rubber Authority of Thailand, said representatives of Alibaba discussed the project with the RAT today. The planned online system would allow buyers in China to bid for Thai rubber directly.
Alibaba expected annual orders of at least 200,000 tons a year and the RAT promised to invite the rubber growers’ organizations that could ensure quality products and enough supply, he said.
Concerned officials will find a suitable location to install the online auction system and a suitable software application that will match various Thai rubber products and demands in China, Mr Nakorn said.
He expected the project to raise local rubber prices, saying China was the world’s biggest rubber buyer. (TNA)
