BANGKOK, Dec 6 (TNA) — The management of state-run Transport Co plans to increase the trips of inter-provincial buses and vans to serve people traveling during the New Year festival.
Its managing director Jirasak Yaowatsakul said that his state enterprise intended to serve all travelers during New Year. It will increase bus and van trips from 6,195 to 8,289 a day to serve 173,000 people daily before New Year holidays. As the New Year exodus is likely to peak on Dec 28 and 29, 800-900 more vehicles will be deployed then to serve up to 180,000-200,000 passengers a day, he said.
For return trips on Jan 1-3, Transport Co will increase its bus and van trips from 6,132 to 8,416 a day to serve 162,482 passengers daily.
Mr Jirasak said more travelers would prefer vans to buses on their return trips and the demand would be unusually high because authorities seriously limited the number of passengers on each van at 14. Besides, many old vans were decommissioned recently.
Transport Co would deploy vans registered for irregular services to help meet travelers’ demands during the period, he said. (TNA)
