BANGKOK, Nov 26 (TNA) – A South Korean man and two Thai
women have been arrested for luring Thai workers via social media to work illegally in South Korea.
Kisik Eum, 49, the Korean national, was arrested with his
Thai accomplices when they were bringing a group of workers from Chon Buri to
Suvarnabhumi Airport on Friday.
In a press conference on Sunday, police said the South
Korean man had confessed of recruiting at least 30 Thais to work illegally in
South Korea over the past five months.
The two Thai accomplices are identified as Krongkaew Khamtha
and Chotika Kerdkliang.
According to police, they posted advertisements in social
media, collected fee of Bt55,000 from the prospective victims and trained them
in Chon Buri. When qualified and
recruited, the workers would be sent to South Korea where their South Korean
accomplices would put them to work.
Immigration police said the suspects have been charged with
illegal recruitment which is punishable to three to 10 years in jail and fines
of between Bt60,000 and Bt200,000. They
are also charged with the Computer Crimes Act violation.
South Korea has long been a favourable workplace of Thai
workers higher wages. Many take risks by
illegally entering South Korea in the hope of getting jobs.(TNA)
