CHAING RAI, Nov 15 (TNA) – Tham Luang -Khun Nam Nang Non forest park has reopened to tourists to visit the crystal clear, emerald green pond but the Tham Luang cave remains closed.
Chongklai Worapongsathorn, deputy chief of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation today presided over the opening of the Khun Nam Nang Non forest park in the northern province of Chiang Rai.
The forest park grabbed the world attention four months ago when 12 young footballers and their coach were trapped inside the Tham Luang cave and later rescued by the international cooperation.
The rescue mission caused damage to environment as the large amount of flood water was pumped out of the cave and heavy equipment was deployed to the forest area.
After the landscape was rehabilitated, parts of the park are now reopened. About 300 visitors at a time will be allowed to enter the park. At least, 3,000 visitors are expected daily this weekend.
Meanwhile the Tham Luang cave will be officially opened later when the museum project at the cave is ready.
The huge painting, depicting the story of the rescue mission and the statue of Saman Gunan a former Thai navy diver, who died while taking part in the rescue efforts will be placed at the cave’s entrance. (TNA)
