BANGKOK, July 1 (TNA) – Thai MPs on Wednesday began a
House debate on the government’s budget bill for the fiscal year 2021.
On the first day of reading the bill, Prime Minister Prayut
Chan-o-cha defended the proposed 3.3-trillion-baht budget that it served the
country’s recovery from the economic woes and COVID-19.
With the deficit budget plan, the bill would not lead to
governments’ financial instability as public debt was still low, he said.
By injecting budget into the economy, the government was
confident that it would help alleviate social and economic inequalities, the
prime minister stated.
During the three-day debate, the opposition MPs are expected
to deliberate the spending plan. Some
have already attacked the government of cronyism and lack of vision in drafting
the bill. (TNA)
