BANGKOK, June 25 (TNA) — Siriraj Hospital, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission and Huawei have a launched self-driving car at the hospital.
Prasit Watanapa, dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, said the self-driving vehicle using 5G communications protected patients and medical personnel amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. It was used initially to transport medicine.
NBTC secretary-general Takorn Tantasith said the autonomous car introduced by NBTC and Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co that offered technological support was used for the first time in Thailand at Siriraj Hospital and it would transport medical supplies and instruments. If the trial run is successful, the technology will be applied for other purposes and at other hospitals.
Mr Takorn said the world-class technology allowed the vehicle to deliver goods through complicated routes in the compound of Siriraj Hospital. It relieves the workloads of medical personnel and save their costs and time. It was a step in the process of developing smart hospitals, he said.
Abel Deng, chief executive officer of Huawei Technologies (Thailand), said the 5G technology of Huawei applied for the self-driving vehicle sped up and digitized medical services. It would stimulate 5G application in the country and thus benefit economic and social development, he said. (TNA)
