BANGKOK, March 27 (TNA) — The King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang has proposed the Public Health Ministry use its dormitories to accommodate more than 200 patients of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Prof Suchatvee Suwansawat, president of the institute, said the institute was ready to turn three out of eight dormitories in their 21.5-rai compound into a field hospital for COVID-19 patients and medical personnel.
He said that 75 rooms would accommodate medical personnel and 276 rooms would serve patients and function as storage space, kitchens and laundries. The institute would set up zones of patients with different degrees of illnesses.
The COVID-19 pandemic prompted the institute to introduce complete online education and have its staff work at home to contain the disease. Consequently many students left their dormitories, Prof Suchatvee said.
The dormitories of the institute were suitable to be a field hospital because they stood in a vast compound far away from communities, he said. (TNA)
