BANGKOK, March 12 (TNA) – Thailand has temporarily revoked Visa on Arrival for 18 countries and a territory and visa exemption for three others after widespread Covid-19 infections in many countries.
The announcement was made after the meeting on coping with the Covid-19 situation on Wednesday, chaired by the prime minister.
Interior Minister Gen Anupong Paochinda said that the VoA cancellation is temporarily until the situation returns to normal.
The 18 countries and a territory are Bulgaria, Bhutan, China, Cyprus, Ethiopia, Fiji, Georgia, India, Kazakhstan, Malta, Mexico, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu and Taiwan.
Travellers from these places have to apply for visas at Thai embassies or consulates. Visa applicants are required to undergo medical check-ups and submit medical certificates, issued within three days to prove that they are not infected with the virus.
Control measures have been stepped up to prevent the spread of Covid-19 outbreak. Visa-free entry has been revoked for Italy, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Moreover, foreigners from high-risk countries, including China, South Korea, Italy and Iran will be placed under 14-day quarantine at the Novotel Suvarnabhumi Hotel for two weeks after their arrivals. (TNA)
