BANGKOK, Feb 20 (TNA) – The levels of ultra-fine
dust have exceeded the safe standard in Bangkok’s 31 districts and accumulation
of dust particles could linger over Bangkok until Feb 23 due to a lack of wind and
cloudy skies.
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) permanent
secretary, Silapasuay Raweesangsoon said the air quality readings at the BMA’s
air monitoring stations in the past 24 hours on average showed the levels of
particulate matter 2.5 were between 50 – 78 microgrammes per cubic metres in the past 24 hours on average.
The highest level was measured at 78 mcg in Bang
Khae district. Other areas with high levels of PM2.5 are in Khlong San
district, Bangkok Noi District, Phasi Charoen district and Laksi district.
Vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly and
the patients with respiratory diseases are advised to reduce outdoor activities
and wear protective masks.
The meteorological department forecast that
accumulation of fine particulate matter would remain until Feb 23 due to weak wind and
cloudy skies. (TNA)
