NAKHON RATCHASIMA, Feb 9 (TNA) – Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha visited victims of the shooting rampage in Nakhon Ratchasima on Sunday morning.
When the prime minister was on board an army helicopter en route from Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima he learned that the standoff was brought to an end after the gunman was killed by security force.
Sergeant Major Jakrapanth Thomma had laid siege of Terminal 21 shopping mall from 6 pm on Saturday until he was confirmed dead at around 9 am Sunday morning.
Prayut began his trip in Nakhon Ratchasima, which is his birthplace, by visiting people who have been injured in the shooting at three hospitals in the province.
Accompanied by Army Commander-in-chief General Apirat Kongsompong and senior ministers, Prayut also confirmed the number of victims in a press conference at Maharaj Hospital.
Twenty seven people including the shooter were killed and 57 others were injured.
Prayut said he followed the developments of the incident from the start and instructed the local security force to save innocent people.
The premier also called for cooperation to help the victims and together take lessons from this tragedy. (TNA)
