BANGKOK, Jan 21 (TNA) –
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) ordered 437 schools under its administration
to close one day on Thursday as the city has been shrouded by unhealthy smog.
BMA Spokesman,
Pongsakorn Kwanmuang said the school closure would protect students from unhealthy
particulate matter, which remains high because of stagnant air on Thursday.
It will also reduce private
car use by parents. Classes will be made up for students next weekend, he
added.
The BMA also ordered
staggering of working hours of 20,000 BMA officials to start from 10 am. to 6
pm. at the city hall in Phra Nakhon district and the Bangkok City Hall 2 in Din Daeng until the dust
situation returns to normal.
Other service units
such the district offices remain open as usual from 8.30 am.
