BANGKOK, Feb 1 (TNA) – A fleet of small planes will spray water over critically haze-hit RamaII Road tomorrow in a new effort to reduce dust particles between the Bangkok city hall and the Bangkok Aviation Center (BAC).
The cooperation was agreed yesterday when Bangkok governor Aswin Kwanmuang met construction contractors, environmental experts and representatives from the Bangkok Aviation Center to discuss ways to tackle the smog.
It is seeking permission from the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand for the water-spraying mission on Saturday.
Piya Tregalnon, CEO of Bangkok Aviation Center said initially, ten of all 47 small planes will fly tomorrow. They will be fitted with water-spraying machines at the BAC’s airfield in Klong 15 Nakhon Nayok. Each plane can carry 150 litres of water and can spray water mist for about 30-45 minutes.
They will fly between 500-1,000 feet and will cover the distance of 60 kilometres.
Meanwhile, the water-spraying drone operation continues in the capital on the second day today in an attempt to reduce fine particulate matter.
The mission will be carried out at five locations – The Bangkok City Hall 2 in Din Daeng, Santiparb Park, His Majesty the King’s 80th Birthday Anniversary Park in Sathorn, Wongwian Yai in Thonburi and the King RamaI monument at the Memorial Bridge.
The large drones, used for agricultural purposes were deployed to Bangkok. They fly to spray water 50 metres above the ground to bring down toxic particulate matter.
Water trucks are also involved in the operation to spray water 20 metres into the air. (TNA)
