BANGKOK, Jan 14 (TNA) – The levels of fine dust in the capital breached the safe level in eight out of 50 districts in the morning.
The Environment Department of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) said the levels of particulate matter 2.5 micrometers and less in diameter (PM2.5) were unsafe in Bung Kum, Bang Khen, Laksi, Klong Toey, Phra Nakhon, Klong San, Bang Kholaem and Wang Thonglang districts.
PM2.5 levels in the areas ranged from 51-58 micrograms per cubic meter of air in the past 24 hours. The safe threshold is at 50mcg.
BMA permanent secretary Silapasuay Raweesangsoon said that air quality in the capital was mostly moderate and people could do outdoor activities. However, children, elderly people and those with respiratory illnesses should reduce their outdoor activities if they coughed, had eye irritation or had breathing difficulty, she said.
District officials were implementing measures to reduce smog and educating people about PM2.5 and the use of face masks, she said. (TNA)
