SONGKHLA, Jan 3 (TNA) – Illegal loggers have damaged four areas covering altogether 15 rai in forest reserves in the San Kala Khiri National Park.
Officials found centuries-old trees were felled.
Internal security operations officials, forestry officials, border patrol police and police of Saba Yoi district combed through the San Kala Khiri National Park and local forest reserves after being informed of illegal logging there.
They found illegal logging in three areas in Khuan Raso and Khuan Nam Ron forest reserves. Two trees that were centuries old were felled with chainsaws. Officials also found 21 wood planks, five logs and traces of wood transport. The damaged areas cover about 10 rai.
The other area is in To Thep forest reserve in Ba Hoi sub-district. It covers about five rai.
Officials did not see any illegal loggers in the areas. The authorities traveled on four-wheel drive vehicles on a distance of about eight kilometers and walked about one kilometer to reach the illegal logging sites. Their operation took about six hours. (TNA)
