BANGKOK, Dec 9 (TNA) — The chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission encouraged society to protect children and young people, on the occasion of the Human Rights Day on Dec 10.
NHRC chairman What Tingsamitr wrote that the Human Rights Day this year marked the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the United Nations was campaigning for public awareness on the importance of people of the new generation. The campaign was being implemented with the theme of “Youth Standing up for Human Rights”.
As a party to the convention, Thailand was obliged to guarantee the rights and freedom for all children in the country to survive and grow up to their potential.
NHRC has proposed measures for the protection of children and young people to the government. They include the concealment of the profiles of young criminals, basic care and rights for the children who arrived with illegal immigrants, students allowed to dress in accordance with their religious beliefs, basic educational services at community-based learning centers, and the production of human rights handbooks for young people.
Mr What urged all parties to value human rights and encouraged society to support children and young people in growing with dignity and protection and fulfilling their potential in appropriate environment so that they would help promote human rights in the future. (TNA)
