BANGKOK, Nov 13 (TNA) — The levels of fine dust were unsafe in 15 districts of Bangkok in the past 24 hours while the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) was trying to implement measures to cope.
The Environment Department of the BMA reported at 7am that particulate matter 2.5 micrometers or less in diameter (PM2.5) measured 40-66 micrograms per cubic meter of air in Bangkok in the past 24 hours. The safe threshold is at 50mcg.
The levels of PM2.5 exceeded the safe threshold in Pathumwan, Samphanthawong, Wang Thong Lang, Bang Kholaem, Yannawa, Khlong San, Bangkok Noi, Phasicharoen, Bang Khen, Bang Phalad, Bang Khunthian, Sathon, Khlong Toei, Bang Sue and Laksi districts.
City Clerk Silapasuay Raweesaengsoon said the Environment Department was implementing measures to control PM2.5 by checking emission from vehicles and ordering the drivers of BMA’s garbage trucks to finish their daily garbage collection before 4am to reduce traffic congestion in morning rush hours.
Besides, BMA officials would assure that contractors spray water at their construction sites and wash the tires of their trucks and their construction areas. The measure focused on the sites of high rise and electric railway projects, Ms Silapasuay said. (TNA)
