BANGKOK, Sept 30 (TNA) – Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-ocha ordered authorities to cope with ultra-fine dust as particulate matter less than 2.5 micrometres in diameter (PM2.5) dust particles in the air exceeded the safe level in Bangkok’s 15 zone.
The prime minister posted on his Facebook account that the PM. 2.5 readings showed the unhealthy level of dust particles in many parts of the capital.
He instructed agencies concerned to implement measures to curb fine dust urgently and asked for cooperation from construction sites and industrial plants to reduce dust emissions in the meantime. Bangkokians are advised to wear face masks when going outside.
The Department of Pollution Control reported the ultra-fine dust levels in 15 zones in Bangkok and surrounding provinces exceeded the safety threshold of 50 microgrammes per cubic metre of air to the unhealthy level between 53-66 microgramme per cubic metres.
Those areas include parts of Pathumwan, Bang Kho Laem, Yannawa, Sathorn, Klong San, Pasi Charoen, Bang Sue, Lak Si, Bang Khen, Bang Phlat and Bang Khun Thien.
In some districts of Samut Prakan province and Samut Sakhon province, concentrations of the PM2.5 levels were measured between 52-62 microgramme per cubic metre. (TNA)
