UBON RATCHATHANI, Sept 23 (TNA) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives provided assistance to farmers in flood-stricken areas in the North and the Northeast as it is expected the situation will return to normal by the end of this month.
Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Chalermchai Sri-on on Monday presided over the ceremony to deploy equipment, pumps, water spraying trucks and trailers to flood –affected villages in the relief operations.
Nine drones flew to survey damage areas and the direction of the water flow, so the authorities have information to map out assistance plans.
Animal feed, medicines, plant seeds, livestock breeds, 2,000 litres of the bio-fermented solutions consisting of effective microorganisms (EM) were also distributed to help farmers.
The minister was briefed on the flood situation in 21 provinces in the North and the Northeast through a video conference.
He launched a volunteer project to help flood victims in 21 provinces. About 7,700 volunteers have participated in the campaign.
The minister then oarded a helicopter to inspect the Mun River and water drainage in Ubon Ratchathni to the Mekong River.
About 300 water propellers were installed to increase water flow by 30-40 per cent. He instructed the Royal Irrigation Department to find another way to bypass Kaeng Sapue rocky rapids to increase water flow.
It is expected the general situation will return to normal at the end of this month, except those in low-lying areas. (TNA)
