UBON RATCHATHANI, Sept 13 (TNA) – Ubon Ratchathani province
faces a major flooding on Friday when a massive water influx reaches the northeastern
city.
All 17 districts of Ubon Ratchathani had
been declared disaster zones before the overflow from the Moon River spread
over the city area on Friday, worsening the flooding situation that has seen
thousands of residents evacuated.
Situated in the far east of northeastern Thailand, Ubon
Ratchathani has been affected by heavy downpours from two major storms earlier
this month. Most parts of the province
have been inundated by flood for more than a week.
MCOT reporter visited two riverine villagers which are
popular tourist attractions. Lower floor
of two-storey houses were completely submerged in floodwater forcing people to
moving their belongings
Ta Kok Hae Bridge over the Mun River is now the only land
link between the northern and the southern parts of the province, after two
other bridges have been cut off.
Water level in the Mun River was nearly four meters over its
banks.
Buddhist monks have pledged to work with provincial
administration and related agencies to provide speedy help to the affected
people.
According to provincial administration, more than 32,000
in the province have been affected by the ongoing floods which also
damaged farmland. Forty eight temporary
shelters have been set up in seven districts for evacuated villager. (TNA)
