SHANGHAI, Sept 5 (TNA) – Consul General of Thailand to Shanghai, Sasirit Tankulrat welcomed Thai media members and gave a briefing on useful information about China and Shanghai.
The consul-general and Aree Ngamsiripattanagul, Shanghai Consul (Investment Promotion), the overseas office of the Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) gave a briefing to visiting Thai media members during a field trip, organized by the Thai Journalists Association.
Sasirit said that China has grown rapidly due to three factors – a visionary leader, the government’s excellent management system and human resource development.
China focuses on giving people education on science, technology, innovation and artificial intelligence (AI). China has become the world’s second largest economy and Thailand should learn more from China, the consul-general said.
Meanwhile, Aree said in 2018-2019, businesspeople, impacted by the US. – China trade war had sought investment privileges from the BOI in 39 investment projects, worth 15.9 billion baht.
According to surveys on China-based companies, conducted by American Chamber of Commerce in the People’s Republic of China (AmCham China), Nomura and J.P. Morgan, Southeast Asia is investors’ interesting destination with Vietnam on the top of the list, followed by Vietnam and Thailand.
The Thai consul-general said that the most important duty of Thai overseas officials or Team Thailand was to promote the country’s benefit.
Apart from boosting good relations and investment between Thailand and China, one of the important missions is to promote Thai tourism among Chinese tourists.
After the boat capsize accident in July last year, which killed many Chinese tourists, the number of Chinese visa applicants dropped by half from as many as 30,000 people daily.
Safety concerns are given priority by Chinese tourists, so Thailand should build confidence among Chinese tourists on this issue, she said. (TNA)
