BANGKOK, Sept 4 (TNA) — The cabinet formed a special committee to solve problems in southern border provinces and appointed Deputy Defence Minister Chaichan Changmongkol as its head.
Deputy government spokesperson Traisulee Traisoranakul said that apart from Gen Chaichan, other members of the committee were Gen Chamlong Khunasong, Gen Prakan Cholayuth, Gen Wiwat Pathompak, Gen Manee Janthip, Chatpong Chatrakhom and Jamnal Mueankham.
The committee was tasked with coordinating solutions for southern border provinces with the cabinet, ministers, and central and local organizations. The solutions would comply with a relevant national strategy and security master plan for the South. The committee would also report local problems and obstacles and propose solutions to the prime minister, Ms Traisulee said.
She also said that the cabinet had not appointed the new chief of its southern peace negotiation team in place of Gen Udomchai Thammasarorat who became a senator.
Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said that Gen Udomchai was acting the negotiation chief while Gen Chaichan was looking for a successor. (TNA)
