BANGKOK, Aug 28 (TNA) — The Singaporean parliament speaker met Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and both shared the hope that Southeast Asian parliamentarians would strengthen the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Tan Chuan-Jin, the Singaporean parliament speaker, called on Gen Prayut at Government on Wednesday on the occasion that he attended the 40th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in Bangkok.
In the meeting, Gen Prayut praised close ties between the parliaments of the two countries and the success of Singapore in applying innovations and technologies to develop itself to be a smart nation.
The prime minister also congratulated Singapore for its bicentennial that marked the arrival of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles in Singapore 200 years ago. He assured his government was determined to enhance bilateral ties in all dimensions.
Gen Prayut also said Thailand hoped to learn from Singapore’s excellent practices and experiences.
The Singaporean parliament speaker praised Thailand’s roles in hosting the 40th general assembly of AIPA and promised to further boost relations between the parliaments of the two nations.
Mr. Tan Chuan-Jin and Gen Prayut expressed their hope that ASEAN parliamentarians would strengthen ASEAN. (TNA)
