BANGKOK, Aug 26 (TNA) – The system will be ready for drug stores to distribute prescribed medication for patients, visiting hospitals from Oct 1 as a new measure to tackle overcrowding at hospital dispensaries, said the National Health Security Office (NHSO).
Sakchai Kanchanawattana, secretary-general of NHSO visited a drug store in Bangkok’s Lat Phrao area to check readiness for the implementation of the new measure to offer an alternative for hospital patients to buy their medication at drug stores in their neighbourhood, so they don’t have to waste time, waiting for a long queue at hospital dispensaries.
A workshop on tacking overcrowding in hospitals will be held at the Richmond Hotel tomorrow, he said.
The system will be applied at 13 heath zones nationwide. In Bangkok, 500 participating pharmacies will link information with 50 hospitals, he added.
Buying medication outside hospitals will be allowed for patients with chronic diseases and stable conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and dyslipidemia. (TNA)
