BANGKOK, Aug 22 (TNA) – Prime Minister Prayut
Chan-o-cha congratulates an acclaimed Thai choir, the Suanplu Chorus, for
winning two top prizes in the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod 2019
in Wales, the United Kingdom.
The Suanplu Chorus on Thursday met with Gen Prayut at
Government House where the choir members performed a riverine procession song.
The prime minister highly praised the choir for making a
name for the country at the prestigious choir festival.
The choir played an important role by representing Thai
people to promote cultural links with the world, Gen Prayut told the
performers.
At the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod 2019 in
July, the Suanplu Chorus won First Prize in the Open Choir category. Its
conductor and music director Ramon Lijaoco Jr. won the Jayne Davies Prize for
Most Outstanding Conductor.
After watching the Suanplu Chorus performance, the premier
floated an idea of incorporating the choir in ASEAN Summit in Thailand later
this year.
The Suanplu Chorus which was established about 20 years ago
has won several prizes from international competitions. (TNA)
