Bangkok, Oct 13 (TNA) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha presided over the alms-giving to 890 Buddhist monks to remember King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s passing on Oct 13, 2016.
The activity took place at the Royal Plaza this morning. Also present at the venue were the prime minister’s wife, cabinet ministers, their spouses, privy councilors, and representatives of governmental and private organizations. All of them wore yellow clothing.
The 890 monks came from temples in Bangkok and nearby provinces. The activity was aimed at making merits for and remembering the late king who had greatly contributed to the nation during his long reign.
After the alms-giving, the government organized a ceremony to lay wreathes and pay homage to the late king in front of his portrait on the Sanam Luang ground at 7am.
A candlelit ceremony was scheduled at 7pm nationwide for general people to jointly remember the King Rama IX. (TNA)
