BANGKOK, Oct 11 (TNA) – Thailand’s state agencies have
organized merit-making ceremonies to mark two years since the passing of the
Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej on October 13, 2016.
Ahead of the second anniversary on Friday, the National
Legislative Assembly (NLA) held an alms-giving ceremony led by NLA president
Pornpetch Wichitcholcai.
After giving alms to 89 Buddhist monks, NLA members presented
donations to local communities in tribute to the late monarch.
In the northeastern province of Buriram, army officers
planted soil-preserving plant, crotalaria, on a plot at a community learning
center. King Bhumibol had studied and
recommended growing crotalaria to preserve soil quality and promote fertility
of farmland.
The officers expected yellow flowers to bloom in time on
King Bhumibol’s birthday anniversary on December 5, which is also the United
Nations World Soil Day.
Beside state agencies, private entities have also held
similar merit-making events or other tributes to the beloved King.
Other alms-giving rituals and special events such as
exhibition and concert will be held in the next few days in memory of the late
King.(TNA)
