BANGKOK, Feb 6 — Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha on Friday met with visiting Chinese Defence Minister Gen Chang Wanquan on continued cooperation in every field, including security between the two countries, said a government spokesman.
The Thai leader asked the Chinese government to help build a medium-speed rail project and to buy more agricultural products.
Gen Chang paid a three-day official visit to Thailand, starting Thursday, aimed at strengthening military and security cooperation.
The spokesman said talks between Gen Prayut and Gen Chang focused on joint military exercises this year, and Beijing's readiness Thailand on education and development related to the national defence industry.
This year’s joint military exercise would also focus on assistance to be given to people suffering from natural disaster, said the spokesman, adding that it would continue from 2014 which marked the first year of the joint military exercise.
According to the spokesman, Gen Prayut praised the Chinese government’s vision on its Maritime Silk Road and said Thailand is prepared to join in the programme.
Gen Prayut also asked China to help the kingdom by buying more agricultural products and for more Chinese tourists to visit Thailand during the upcoming celebrations of Chinese New Year on February 19, the spokesman added. (MCOT online news)
