BEIJING, June 23 (TNA) – China’s Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to elevating relations with Thailand and cooperating on law enforcement, as a Thai delegation visited Beijing to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
The nine-member delegation, led by Tej Bunnag, Secretary-General of the Thai Red Cross Society and a former Foreign Minister who served as Ambassador to Beijing from 1986-1990, is in China as part of the celebrations for five decades of Thailand-China diplomatic relations. Organized by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Department of East Asian Affairs, the group met with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong to deepen bilateral relations. Key discussion points included elevating overall ties and fostering cooperation for mutual growth.
Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong praised the former Thai ambassadors for their significant contributions to Thai-Chinese relations, particularly Ambassador Tej Bunnag, acknowledging his pivotal role in the history preceding the formal establishment of diplomatic ties 50 years ago.

During the meeting, Sun reiterated China’s desire to build a community with a shared future with Thailand and advance bilateral cooperation to a new level. He emphasized developing collaborative growth in areas such as AI innovation, digital economy, sustainable development, and railway connectivity.
Furthermore, the Chinese Vice Foreign Minister affirmed Beijing’s readiness to cooperate with the Thai government on law enforcement to tackle issues concerning Chinese individuals engaged in illegal activities and transnational Chinese criminal gangs in Thailand. This collaboration aims to protect shared security and ensure the safety of citizens in both countries. Sun stated, “No matter how the world changes or what situations arise, rest assured that China will always be a good neighbor to Thailand, and the friendship between our two countries will endure for a long, long time.”
Thailand and the People’s Republic of China formally established diplomatic relations on July 1, 1975, when then-Thai Prime Minister M.R. Kukrit Pramoj and Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai signed a joint communique. Over the past five decades, both nations have continuously and constructively cooperated across various dimensions, including economic, political, social, and cultural exchanges at governmental, private sector, and people-to-people levels. -819 (TNA)
