BANGKOK, March 6 — Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha reiterated Friday his government would move forward in suppressing prevailing corruption in Thailand and good governance would be seen “within this year.”
Gen Prayut told participants attending a seminar on ‘CoST: Construction Sector Transparency Initiative (CoST)’, sponsored by several government agencies and cooperated by the British embassy in Bangkok, that his government has cooperated with several private and public sectors and international organisations in an attempt to create transparency.
Several mechanisms, for example, the CoST are used while “transparency on both small – and large-sized projects will complete within this year” in order to prevent corruption, said Gen Prayut.
In building transparency, the government alone cannot perform alone so it has to seek cooperation from other mechanisms including the CoST programme for use in Thailand in order to achieve the goal, he said.
British ambassador to Thailand Mark Kent, meanwhile, said during the seminar that the CoST programme has been established in Thailand since 2008 with support given by the British government and the World Bank.
Welcoming Thailand in joining the programme, Mr Kent said the British embassy would lay out the system which would disclose information to the public.
Mr Kent also said he was pleased to learn that the state-run Airports of Thailand would implement the CoST programme for use in the Phase 2 expansion of Suvarnabhumi Airport to ensure transparency to the public. (MCOT online news)
