SA KAEO, Sept 18 (TNA) – Thai authorities have deployed additional security forces to the Cambodian border in Sa Kaeo province after a group of Cambodians, including soldiers and a local leader, gathered near a site where a clash occurred yesterday.
A Thai military drone observed a significant build-up of villagers in the Nong Ya Kaeo area. Officials believe the group intends to remove a newly installed security fence. Authorities also reported that Cambodian intelligence operatives, disguised as Buddhist monks, have infiltrated the crowd.
In response, Thailand has escalated security measures, deploying the military, Border Patrol Police, and crowd control units. Police reinforcements from nearby provinces have also been called in.
The Royal Thai Army maintains that Wednesday’s incident, in which Cambodians allegedly destroyed government property, took place on Thai soil and that such actions are illegal.
The army affirmed that its response would follow international principles, starting with negotiation and warnings. -819 (TNA)
