SAMUT SAKHON, April 30 (TNA) – Thai police seized over 10 million baht worth of smuggled pork intestines in Samut Sakhon, suspecting Chinese investors used a rented warehouse to store and distribute the illegal goods nationwide.
A joint operation by the Central Investigation Bureau and the Department of Livestock Development raided a warehouse following reports of illicitly imported salt-cured pork from China destined for sausage production.
Despite a Thai ban on pork imports from China and neighboring countries since 2019 due to African Swine Fever, authorities found 514 containers (around 40 tonnes) of suspected pork intestines. The warehouse was reportedly unsanitary and foul-smelling.
The property owner identified a Chinese national, Mr. Chen, as the renter and owner of the goods. Samples were taken for testing, and legal action is expected. Smuggled pork intestines are valuable for sausage production in Thailand. – 819 (TNA)
