BANGKOK, Aug 16 (TNA) – Watanya Bunnag resigned as a House representative and a member of the coalition-core Palang Pracharath Party to protest against other representatives and senators who dumped a list MP election amendment bill.
Miss Watanya aka Madam Dear said she met PPRP leader and Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon this morning to inform him of her resignation decision.
She said that she had done her duties well and always attended parliamentary sessions but people complained that the sessions had collapsed for weeks.
Miss Watanya said that members of the parliament should have attended the latest session to vote for their favorite calculation method for the election of party list MPs instead of being absent from the vote.
She commented that she would like to vote for a two-ballot electoral system and the list MP calculation method in which the number of all list MP votes will be divided by 100 to find the minimum votes for a political party to win a list MP seat.
The latest parliamentary session of House representatives and senators on Aug 15 lacked its quorum when they were about to vote on the amendment bill on the election of list MPs which would use the 500 divisor. Consequently the parliament returned to the calculation method with the 100 divisor. (TNA)
