BANGKOK, March 31 (TNA) – The House committee scrutinizing a bill on MP election voted for a rule for a political party to use different candidacy numbers for constituency and party-list candidates.
The vote was against the intention of the opposition-core Pheu Thai Party which wanted a political party to use one candidacy number for voters to conveniently remember. Pheu Thai assured it would argue against the committee’s decision in the parliament.
Members of the House committee had seriously discussed the issue before the vote. Committee members from opposition parties including Pheu Thai and Move Forward campaigned for a single candidacy number for each political party’s constituency and party-list candidates nationwide.
Meanwhile, committee members from the coalition-core Palang Pracharath Party and small and medium-sized parties supported different candidacy numbers.
Committee members from Pheu Thai, Move Forward and some other parties which preferred single candidacy numbers reserved their rights to discuss the matter during the second reading of the bill in the parliament. (TNA)
