BANGKOK, Jan 14 (TNA) – The Board of Investment (BOI) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) signed a memorandum of cooperation (MOC) to promote bilateral investment, business matching and technology transfer.
BOI secretary-general Duangjai Asawachintachit and JETRO Bangkok chairman Taketani Atsushi signed the MOC to support Japanese companies in Thailand in increasing their investment especially in high technology, research and development for industries in Thailand.
Hagiuda Koichi, Japanese Minister of Economic Trade and Industry, and Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Supattanapong Punmeechaow witnessed the signing ceremony.
Japan is the country with the biggest foreign direct investment in Thailand. In 2021, it requested BOI’s promotional privileges for 178 investment projects which accounted for 22.7% of all foreign investment projects in the country.
Investment in the projects from Japan was estimated at 80.73 billion baht, forming 17.7% of all foreign investment. (TNA)
