SAMUT PRAKAN, July 6 (TNA) – The fire at the foam bead factory which exploded in Bang Phli district early on July 5 was under control as firefighters were hosing smoldering debris with water and firefighting foam to prevent reignition.
The blaze at Ming Dih Chemical Co on King Kaew Road was put under control at 4am today after it had started with explosions at about 3am on July 5.
Bang Phli district chief, Somsak Kaewsena said the compound of the company and its vicinities were declared disaster areas. He warned residents within the one-kilometer radius of the factory not to return home for the time being.
In the afternoon, concerned officials would discuss environmental impacts. Samut Prakan governor Wanchai Kongkasem was set to inspect the factory at noon today and would decide when rescue workers should be withdrawn from the area.
One volunteer firefighter was killed by the fire and 50 other people, including 12 firefighters were injured. The explosion damaged 73 houses and 15 cars in the nearby neighbourhood. (TNA)
