BANGKOK, Nov 12 (TNA) – Israeli government requests 2,000 workers from Thailand after the latter has effectively controlled the Covid -19.
Suchart Chomklin, Labour Minister was at Suvarnabhumi airport on Thursday morning to see off 206 workers, leaving to work on farms in Israel under the Thailand – Israel Cooperation on the Placement of Workers (TIC).
The Israeli government requested 2,000 Thai workers to work in the agricultural sector in Israel and the Thai department of Employment sent 386 workers to Israel on September 30.
It is expected to fill up the quota by January next year.
Thailand started sending Thai workers to Israel in June in 2012 under a state-to state labour cooperation scheme. Normally, about 5,000 Thai workers go to Israel each year.
Since the first implementation of the scheme until February 2020, 40,082 Thai workers went to Israel, remitting 54 billion baht back to the country.
After the Covid -19 situation in Thailand was under control, it has sent 16,466 Thais to work overseas, most or 5,032 going to Taiwan. (TNA)
