BANGKOK, October 8 (TNA) – Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) is inviting private companies to reduce greenhouse gas emission by joining Thailand Clean Energy Network 2020.
The Network is a platform for cooperation on nationally determined contribution (NDC) target.
EGAT has agreed to issue renewable energy certificate for renewable energy producers.
Energy Minister Supatanapong Panmeechao said in an event to launch the Network on Thursday that Toyota had become the first to receive Renewable Energy Certificate under this program.
This mechanism was created to help boost development, production and use of renewable energy, resulting in a reduction of greenhouse gases, he said.
Above all, it would help the country achieve the national goal of clean and sustainable energy, the minister added.
EGAT governor Viboon Rerksirathai said that the agency and independent power producers had reduced carbon dioxide emission up to 10.03 million tons. The certification helped promote the use of renewable energy, and create jobs and income while stimulating the economy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with the UN sustainable development, Viboon said.(TNA)
