BANGKOK, Sept 4 (TNA) — Thailand logged four new patients of the coronavirus disease 2019 and the total cases rose to 3,431.
The new local infection case is a male inmate aged 37. Other three cases are inbound people who were quarantined. The three Thais arrived from the United States, Singapore and Saudi Arabia. One of them had contracted the disease and been treated overseas.
Of all 3,431 cases, 3,277 recovered and 92 were at hospitals. The death toll was at 58.
The Criminal Court stated that the infected inmate came in contact with 150 officials at the court when he arrived for an Appeal Court ruling on Aug 26. All the officials tested negative for COVID-19.
Justice Minister Somsak Thepsutin said the inmate had been detained with 32 inmates. The infected man was brought to Correctional Hospital and the other inmates who shared the same cell would be quarantined for 14 days and tested for COVID-19 again.
The local infection was detected as all new inmates must be tested for COVID-19 in compliance with the strict disease control measures of the Corrections Department, he said.
The infected inmate had worked as a DJ at many restaurants and the Ministry of Public Health was investigating how he had contracted the disease, Mr Somsak said. (TNA)
