RANONG, August 31 (TNA) – Thai authorities have tightened border control measures amid concerns over the surge in COVID-19 cases in neighbouring Myanmar.
The spike of COVID-19 cases in recent days has prompted local authorities in border areas to enforce strict measures against illegal migrants.
In Ranong province, which shares over 100 kilometers of border with Myanmar, border patrol units have worked around the clock to prevent illegal migrant that could potentially expose the coronavirus in Thailand.
Myanmar’s authorities in Kaw Thaung reported that they detected three coronavirus cases on a freight ship.
Army troops and border patrol police have carried out coordinated operation along the Myanmar borderline.
In the past week, Thai officers have arrested dozens of Myanmar nationals for illegal entry in major border trade posts such as Mae Sot, Tak province, and Mae Sai, Chiang Rai. (TNA)
