UBON RATCHATHANI, Aug 31 (TNA) – Ubon Ratchathani governor remains vigilant to strict control border crossings to prevent recurrence of Covid-19.
Sarit Withoon, the governor of this northeastern province, bordering Laos disclosed that more officials have been deployed to station along the border to prevent illegal immigration through natural border crossings.
Currently, only Chong Mek border checkpoint in Sirindhorn district is opened for goods transport and patient transfer under the disease control measures.
Since the border was shut in March, there have been no reports on illegal immigration through natural channels in the province, he said, however, officials and volunteers maintain tightened security to keep an eye on boats crossing the Mekong River to the Thai side as well.
The governor said the province first found the Covid-19 patient in March and successfully managed to contain the disease with the total confirmed case of 15.
All of the coronavirus infections entered Ubon Ratchathani from other provinces.
The province currently provides state quarantine facilities for Thai returnees from neighbouring countries. No new cases have been reported so far, he added. (TNA)
