BANGKOK, Nov 14 (TNA) — The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has invited businessmen in Guangdong province to invest in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).
FTI chairman Supant Mongkolsuthree signed an agreement on information exchange and mutual business facilitation with Fang Lixu, chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangdong Committee (CCPIT).
Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak witnessed the ceremony. On the occasion, the deputy prime minister asked the CCPIT to encourage Chinese investors to do business in Thailand and advise more Chinese travelers to visit Thailand. He said he wished the number of Chinese tourists in the country to increase to 10 million this year. He also said that Guangdong investors were highly interested in Thailand as they considered the country as the center of ASEAN.
Mr Supant said the signed agreement would lead to cooperation on researches, economic development, trade, technology, culture, education, tourism and information exchange.
Large-scaled companies in Guangdong were interested in expanding their investment to Thailand although Thai workers had yet to improve their skills, he said.
The value of trade between Thailand and Guangdong was estimated at US$23 billion and formed a quarter of Sino-Thai trade value, he said. (TNA)
