BANGKOK, Aug 29 (TNA) – BREAKING — Thailand’s Constitutional Court has dismissed Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra from office after ruling she committed a serious ethics violation.
The case was brought forward by 36 senators who petitioned the Constitutional Court to rule on whether Paetongtarn’s appointment violated the constitution.
The petition, often referred to as the “audio clip case,” stems from a reported conversation between Paetongtarn and Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen, which allegedly raised questions about her constitutional qualifications.
Possible candidates for the next prime minister, who must be on their party’s list of nominees, include Pheu Thai’s Chaikasem Nitisiri and Bhumjaithai Party leader Anutin Charnvirakul. Other potential candidates from the United Thai Nation Party and the Democrat Party may also be considered.
A candidate needs a simple majority of 247 votes in the 492-member House of Representatives to secure the position. -819 (TNA)
