ANNING, CHINA – Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiamphong accepted an invitation from his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, for informal trilateral talks with China and Cambodia during the 10th Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting from August 13-15.
Maris thanked China for its constructive role in supporting a peaceful resolution between Thailand and Cambodia through bilateral mechanisms and for backing the full implementation of ceasefire agreements.
He emphasized the urgent need for Thailand and Cambodia to cooperate on demining their border, which he said is a crucial step toward de-escalating tensions and restoring normalcy in the area.
Maris also revealed that all parties agreed on the need to avoid spreading misinformation on social media. The Thai minister thanked Wang Yi for his support on the demining issue, which is expected to be discussed further at an upcoming Regional Border Committee (RBC) meeting. -819 (TNA)
