BANGKOK, July 28 (TNA) – A former processed fruit vendor went on a shooting rampage at Bangkok’s popular Or Tor Kor Market on Monday, killing five people – four security guards and one vendor – before taking his own life. Two other market vendors were injured.
The incident occurred around 12:30 PM at the Marketing Organization for Farmers (Or Tor Kor) Market in Chatuchak district. Or Tor Kor Market is located a short distance from Chatuchak Market, a major Bangkok tourist attraction. Police identified the gunman as 60-year-old Noi, who previously operated a stall there.
Noi’s wife told investigators the motive stemmed from a deep-seated grudge against one of the deceased security guards, who allegedly vandalized her husband’s pickup truck in 2019. Despite complaints to market authorities, no action was taken, escalating his resentment. She also revealed her husband called her to ask for forgiveness before the shooting.
Police revealed Noi hijacked a taxi to the market, telling the driver he intended to shoot security guards. He then opened fire on three guards near Gate 1, killing them. He pursued and shot another guard, believed to be the target of his vendetta, in a separate booth. After reloading, he entered the market, shooting three vendors near his wife’s stall, killing one and injuring two. He then shot himself dead on a market bench.
In total, six people died: four security guards, one female vendor, and the gunman. Two other female vendors were injured. Police confirmed the firearm was legally registered to the gunman. – 819 (TNA)
