KANCHABURI, Feb 21 (TNA) – Hundreds of Buddhists gathered at the iconic Mon Bridge in Kanchanaburi Province on a holy day to participate in a traditional alms-offering ceremony, organized by the Department of Religious Affairs.
The event, titled “Faith, Merit, Community Support,” aimed to promote local culture and Buddhist teachings, according to the Ministry of Culture.
Assistant Minister of Culture, Ploy Thanikul, presided over the event on Thursday, which featured monks from Wat Wang Wiwekaram leading the procession across the 445-meter wooden bridge, the longest of its kind in Thailand.
Participants offered food and other necessities to the monks.The event also included cultural performances by the local Mon community, displays of traditional handicrafts, and a visit to a replica of India’s Mahabodhi Pagoda.
“This event not only fosters spiritual merit but also stimulates the local economy and showcases the unique cultural heritage of the Mon people,” said Thanikul.
The Mon Bridge, officially known as Uttamanusorn Bridge, is a popular tourist attraction and a symbol of the Mon community in Thailand. -819 (TNA)
