BANGKOK, Oct 5 (TNA) – The Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission asked radio stations nationwide to disseminate disaster reports from the government for the sake of public safety amid heavy downpours and flooding in regions.
Sombat Leelapata, acting secretary-general of the NBTC, said the Office of the NBTC sent the request to radio stations nationwide because their contribution would let people be informed of possible disasters soon enough for their safety.
Heavy rains continued in many areas in the county and people needed to be informed swiftly of possible flash floods, run-offs and high waves, he said.
Government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said that in a meeting on responses to flooding and assistance for victims at the Interior Ministry on Oct 3, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha ordered officials to quickly report flood situations to people. He emphasized radio broadcasts because radio remained as the best communication channel with the public, the spokesman said.
Surveys confirmed that radio was still popular among people of all age ranges, Mr Anucha said. (TNA)
