PHUKET, July 12 (TNA) – Two more visitors to Phuket under the Phuket Sandbox project tested positive for COVID-19. They are Myanmar nationals aged eight and nine years.
The provincial public health office of Phuket reported that they were among 11 new COVID-19 cases found over the past 24 hours. The rest cases were among general people. From April 3 to July 10, Phuket logged 785 COVID-19 cases, seven of whom died.
Dr Koosak Kookiatkul, Phuket health chief, said the two new cases who were foreign visitors to Phuket were confirmed with the virus on their second swab collection. Their family members who were in close contact with them were subject to 14-day quarantine while health officials were identifying other at-risk people.
From July 1 to 9, 3,287 foreign visitors arrived under the Phuket Sandbox project. Three of them were confirmed with COVID-19. The first case is a man who arrived from the United Arab Emirates. He tested positive with his first swab at Phuket airport. (TNA)
