BANGKOK, Nov 27 (TNA) – Police chief ordered security be stepped up in the southern border provinces after a bombing at a rail track in Narathiwat’s Sugnai Padi district Wednesday morning.
Deputy police spokesperson, Pol Col Kritsana Pattanacharoen said an unknown number of assailants carried out the predawn attack at the rail track between Sungai Padi and Toh Deng.
The bomb damaged art of the the rail track but no one was wounded in the incident.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team inspected the bomb site and CCTV surveillance cameras, installed at nearby spots to gather evidence.
According to an initial investigation, it is believed to be the work of suspected insurgents, said the deputy police spokesman.
National police chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda ordered local police officers to tighten security at key locations such as police stations, government offices, tourist attractions.
Patrols will be conducted at economic and residential areas and checkpoints will be set up on main and secondary roads to search suspicious vehicles. (TNA)
