TRANG, Sept 23 (TNA) — The municipal office of Trang distributed face masks to young children to protect them from smoke haze.
Trang governor Luechai Charoensap handed out face masks from the Trang municipal office to 955 kindergarteners and children from nursery schools at the municipal office’s center for the development of young children in response to smoke haze from Indonesia.
The level of fine dust (PM2.5) there measured 60 micrograms per cubic meter of air in the past 24 hours, breaching the safety threshold of 50 micrograms for the second consecutive day, although rain alleviated the air pollution by a certain extent this morning.
In Krabi province, smoke haze heavily blanketed eight districts including its central district from yesterday. Despite rain, thick smoke remained on roads and coastal areas.
Dr Apichai Limanont, health chief of Krabi, said the air pollution started to be harmful to health especially among vulnerable people including those suffering from respiratory illnesses. He ordered health officials in eight affected districts to advise the people to refrain from outdoor activities. About 10,000 face masks were prepared for affected people there.
In Songkhla province, the level of fine dust dropped to 46 micrograms. The Regional Environment Office 16 in the southern province reported that unsafe levels of fine dust were in Phuket, Trang, Satun, Yala and Narathiwat provinces. (TNA)
